Exponentially Increasing Complexity in Fund Management

Emerald pioneered the creation of clean- or industrial tech Venture Capital Funds in Europe, investing in startups driving sustainbable industrial innovation. The funds designed in an evergreen structure with flex-term mechanics lack a pre-defined end date, allowing investors to join at any time. This flexibility led to complex calculations and transactions, making manual tracking of an ever-growing number of investors and startups impractical. Additionally, management and precise tracking of expenses and fees became increasingly time-consuming.

Implementing an Automated, Flexible Tool

Understanding and Designing the Solution

We began by developing a deep understanding of the intricate business logic and processes to be mirrored and streamlined in the new tool. This involved reverse engineering from existing Excel spreadsheets and databases, along with integrating human experience and judgment.

Scalable Technical Architecture

All business logic and calculations are executed in the backend using Java, while the user interface was developed as a web application with React. The solution is hosted on Emerald’s secure cloud platform, allowing for simple user and access privilege management.

Enhanced UI/UX

The UI, incorporating numerous tables for data entry and display, uses AG Grid to save Emerald time and money. This efficient interface ensures seamless data handling and user interaction.
